In the summer of 2025, I sat down with lead singer and guitarist Luke Griffiths from the British rock band False Heads.
As a fellow politically engaged Brit, Luke was kind enough to contact me through my TikTok account and agreed to interview to explore his background, discuss his thoughts on contemporary politics and give insight into the state of the music industry.
Born in the working class Canning Town and then raised in a more middle class environment, Luke had an insightful upbringing.
His elder family was involved in East London gang violence being brought up in post war Britain. He was lucky enough to escape the life of his forebears and study History at university where he first noticed how classism worked.
Translating this to modern politics, he argues a lot of the failure of the left wing is down to it being dominated by upper middle class voices that drown out and perhaps patronise the voiceless masses.
Upon entering the music industry as the lead singer and guitarist of False Heads, Luke discovered more of the British class system and a lack of opportunities for ordinary people.
He argues that it’s become increasingly hard for working or even middle class creatives to make a living in a hostile music industry wherein it’s become almost impossible to make a living out of an art form we all love.
We discuss his views on the lack of working class voices in the media, politics and the state of the music industry in 2025 and beyond.
Since this video, Luke and myself kept in touch and I have found him to be a wonderful person and a very talented musician.
