I am a humanist and broadly on the left wing. Islamism is not Islam or Muslims. Islamism is a political ideology.
Racism against Muslims is wrong. I am not arguing for more racism, the opposite in fact.
I am not attacking all of Islam either. After all, Islam has many sects and many progressive Muslims are victims of the same evil I am talking about.
This will become one the biggest issues in the UK in the near future. It is already a massive global issue.
Failure to do so from the left will lead to a right wing surge as has already happened. Instead we are capitulating in the UK.
The paradox of tolerance states we cannot tolerant the intolerant. Islamists are intolerant in the extreme.
Islamists are far right, arguably fascists. What is left wing about supporting them? They desire a world according to their rules, their religion, anti secularist, anti women, anti LGBT, anti non Muslims and will use violence to achieve it.
But even so, criticism of Islam is not racism or “far right”. Islam is a religion, Muslims are people. Ideas do not have rights. This should be very basic.
The Quran is a complicated, often contradictory text but it has verses openly anti LGBT relationships. That much is undisputed. So yes – we should be able to criticise the Quran.
Recently, Irish hip hop group Kneecap came out in support of Hamas and Hezbollah. The same group has been pictured with Corbyn and on Politics Joe.
Hamas are explicit and they showed the world on October 7; children were killed and they said they’d do it again.
“Do you condemn Hamas?” is a fair and easy question to answer, actually. Mehdi Hasan (a Muslim) could say yes, why can’t you?
Resistance is one thing, an army of God dedicated to instilling sharia law is clearly different.
Why can some of the left correctly identify Israel as religious fascists but not Hamas?
The Taliban are explicit – they hate non Muslims, women, LGBT people. It’s already happening, we don’t need hypotheticals.
In 10 Muslim countries, apostates can be killed. I do not understand why people ignore this.
It doesn’t matter if Israel is bombing Palestinians (which is wrong), that doesn’t mean it’s OK and I should be censored and labelled for pointing out Pakistan is executing atheists for blasphemy thousands of miles away.
None of this is new or due to Western foreign policy as the left always likes to claim.
Sikh history tells the story of Islam brutally executing Sikh Gurus for refusing to convert to Islam. Was that due to the USA? Did AIPAC fund the Mughal empire? Well if it was I’d like to know how a country which didn’t even exist back then was responsible.
This is a very British issue, Islam is especially conservative here. Tahir Ali, Labour MP, attempted to bring in a blasphemy law. I didn’t see Novara Media or Corbyn or the Greens condemn it. An actual MP tried to make it a hate crime for people to criticise Islam and would, essentially, have made it racist for Sikhs across the UK to tell their own history.
Sikh organisations and Humanists fought back and won. In 2019, an elderly Sikh Lord quit the BBC because they censored him from telling Sikh history. If Ali got his way, he’d not only be censored, he’d have committed a hate crime.
That is my history as well and if you visit Gurdwaras across the UK they all document the same history; the Mughal empire did oppress the Sikhs. It’s a fact. Why should we be forced to be quiet and censored from telling our history in our own country?
A concerning number of British Muslims want sharia law and we all know the numbers on attitudes to LGBT rights.
Right now, there is a teacher in hiding in Batley, Yorkshire because he showed a photo in a RE class at his school. That is terrorism. Pure intimidation in a secular country to kowtow to terrorist demands for what is not a crime. He did not attack Muslims, he innocently showed an image.
The NEU, the teachers union, didn’t say a word.
Quite why this is allowed to happen in a secular country I don’t know. In Pakistan with state religion of Islam is bad enough. Here we have capitulated to the whims of a tiny minority. Be clear; these men sent a teacher into hiding for showing a photo. They should be punished, not the teacher.
The UK has major issues with racism. This was not done due to benevolence. This is happening due to pure fear.
In Wakefield, a schoolboy scuffed a Quran. He got death threats and his family forced to apologise.
In the UK, Mohammed Hijab has over 1 million YouTube subscribers. Mr Hijab and his friend Ali Dawah are absolutely extremists.
Dawah said, and of course nobody mentions this because of fear/ideology, he would execute ex Muslims in his ideal sharia state.
On camera, to millions on YouTube – not a word from Politics Joe who had him on their channel on a video about Tommy Robinson (who is the flip side of Islamists – equally as idiotic, dangerous and nasty).
I won’t link these videos because I don’t want to hand the video views but people can search it for all three themselves. This is not normal for a secular country.
YouTube hasn’t taken him or Dawah down. Isn’t saying we would kill atheists incitement? Apparently not.
Ex Muslims have already been murdered in Islamic countries – this isn’t a joke.
I predict we will see a serious rise in Islamic identity politics in 2025, a rise in the far right and potentially a terrorist attack in the UK.
Why? Well we already have 4 MPs voted entirely on the Gaza issue, MPs like Tahir Ali, Reform UK rising and it’s already happened before any of these problems arose.
In this video essay I explain how the left should deal with conservative Islam (Wahhabism, Salafism etc.) and Islamism and why the left is dangerously in the wrong.
