I believe in evidence. If there is no evidence for something existing, I cannot believe it. Hence I do not believe in God.
We are all born agnostics, religion is taught to us. I don’t claim to know the answers. So the burden of proof is on those that do. You’re making the claim, prove it.
So it is always on the religious to prove their claims, not for non religious people to prove ours.
None of the major religions have shown me any proof as of yet they are true.
History teaches me against religion. To me, it was created for social control. All the major religious founders position themselves as the all knowing genius; what an amazing way to get people to listen to and a tool of manipulation!
Humans have always craved power. The question is how to get it. If you can brainwash people you hold the knowledge to life itself or God chose you, you’re halfway there.
The divine right of Kings refers to the idea that, in Britain, the monarchy was a right given by God. Without these tactics, the people would wake up that such a hierarchy is clearly unfair.
Religion explains the unexplainable and the scary – why the is sky blue, why are we alive, why do we suffer?
Science doesn’t have all the answers but we have done pretty well. We now know about the Big Bang, evolution – all things that for most of history were mysteries.
As science evolves, religious explanations become less realistic.
Religious people also always seem to be lucky. Mexicans convinced Christianity is the way, Pakistanis and Islam … how lucky you happened to be born, by chance, in a culture which has the truth!
How often do religious people really think about this? Not all religious people conform to the majority belief in their society and some are converts so this isn’t a universal argument but I find it quite ridiculous how little people question this.
If God exists, God is evil. Suffering exists on Earth on a mass scale. If God is all powerful (as per most major religions) why don’t they do anything about it?
If I had the power to alleviate the suffering of a child dying from malaria, I’d do it.
The argument of free will falls flat because, again, what about children? And if this is all because of Adam and Eve or whatever – why am I punished for other people I cannot control?
So if God is real, I’d like to give God a good talking to.
I am a humanist as atheism doesn’t cut it for me.
Atheism says we don’t believe in God. Humanism says we don’t believe but we should do good and be good anyway.
