I absolutely condemn the loss of any and all innocent civilian life, especially that of children and non combatants.
I also condemn antisemitism and anti Muslim/Palestinian hate.
This conflict was born out of Zionism, a political philosophy not a religious one.
Anti Zionism is not antisemitism. Many Jews are anti Zionists and anti Zionism existed since its inception. People who conflate the two diminish the real crime of antisemitism.
That being said, antisemitism has been a constant throughout history and is alive today and Jewish people have legitimate reason to be wary and we cannot dismiss this.
Jews have been kicked out of countries all over Europe and beyond for thousands of years and in the 1940s this came to a head at its worst during the Holocaust. Israel didn’t happen for no reason; there is a unique context behind this country.
This kind of racism is wrong. Antisemitism was not confined to just a few years in Hitler’s Germany. The history is very clear.
Since October 7, 2023, Hezbollah, Iran, the Houthis in Yemen, and Palestinian armed groups in Gaza launched 28,000 rocket, missile and drone attacks, mostly intercepted, that killed at least 29 civilians in Israel and in Israeli-occupied territory as of mid-October.
Despite this, Netanyahu and Likud are just as genocidal as Hamas.
So why then my Prime Minister, Kier Starmer, is presiding over a government that gives arms to Israel is immoral.
What we need, in my opinion, is a push for a two state solution, end arms to Israel and an end to antisemitism and anti Muslim hate.
Thanks to the recent election of Trump, Netanyahu and Hamas we probably won’t see that or anything close now.
